Artsy State
Watching Virginia Become a Little "Artsier" And being a part of an entertaining fun experience! The state “for lovers” has been my home for much longer than any other state (I grew up as a Navy
daughter; lots of moving!). More specifically, northern Virginia, which we here affectionately call it,
“Nova,”—land of government folks, unpredictably dramatic weather conditions and Rush HOURS rather
than a singular Rush Hour’s worth of parking-lot traffic—has long been my charming little cradle.
So, I’ve seen a lot of changes, over the years, in my neck o’ the Dogwoods. We are becoming…along
with the rest of the D.C. metropolitan area…artsier.
And I’m SO about it.
I would say that this area is pretty good at keeping up with countrywide developments. The ‘Paint &
Sip’ phenomenon is no exception! The timing of this was perfect for me, personally, as I discovered
Pinot’s Palette right as I was wondering what to do with my hard-earned art degree, and was becoming
discouraged with not finding a job that would allow me to play with art supplies, have fun, be happy,
and barely feel like I was working.
Cue the part where I tell you about my Craigslist adventures. I crossed paths with Robyn—owner of
the very first Pinot’s studio in the state (as it was becoming a real place!)…and here we are. The studio
opened in mid-April and it feels so cool to have been a part of the process to it getting there. I’m like the
OG of our Artists, the “veteran”…and I just get so excited to walk into that cool new building within our
shopping center. I feel the curiosity of folks strolling about, outside. I just want to scream to them, “YES!
It’s as intriguing and exciting as you think! Come experience this!”
But don’t worry. I don’t scream at anybody. I do, however, mention to my painters at each of my
events now, that they should feel super special to be among the first to break in the new studio—first of
PP in their state (with two more, in the works!). Northern Virginians love to be flattered and feel special.
We’re kinda hams (pun intended; if you haven’t had Virginia country ham, you haven’t lived). This place
is such a breath of fresh air for folks. The majority of them just work, and work, and work, and sit in
traffic, and work, and work. It’s the life. BAM, we’ve given them something else to do. We’ve given them
a sanctuary from monotony. We’ve given them something unique to do in celebrating a birthday or
anniversary, or just simply a night out with friends. And we’re just so gosh-darn COOL! You’re welcome,
Virginia. Pinot’s Palette’s here to keep you fun, keep you hip, and help get your artsy-fartsy on.
