A Wine Guide For Beer Lovers!
Most of us have those friends who specifically place themselves into the beer-drinking category, and that category, alone!
((*Same goes for wine-drinkers who won’t dare go near beer…))
It could be that they had a bad first wine experience, or perhaps they haven’t even started to explore the world of wine yet.
But why choose between wine or beer when there are some ways to pair a beer with it’s wine counterpart??
Choosing a wine style similar to the style of beer you enjoy is a good way to make the transition. Finding a good wine match for a beer-lover is all about pairing weight, texture, and notes — like fruit, herbs, and earth.
As a beer drinker, opening yourself up to the world of wine increases your beverage tasting options by the thousands. And the same rule applies when the roles are reversed. I try to make myself open to new styles and flavor options of both wine and beer. While I love my farmhouse ales, I don’t know what I’d do without Champagne.
If you’re a beer-lover, finding a good, satisfying wine can be hard. I mean, if you’re used to the boldness and heaviness of a beer, the lightness and juiciness of wine can be disappointing.
For every bottle of wine drunk in the United States, at least 20 bottles of beer are consumed. That means, 20 to 1, your friends are drinking beer. So how do you get your friends to drink (and enjoy) more wine?
Check out these pairs of wine and beer that have similar structures in flavor and could be a great tradition for your beer-only loving friends (or your wine-only lovers)...

Try: Chianti
*Chianti’s are medium-bodied and often, bitter and acidic, much like a dry and crisp Lager
If You Like: IPA
Try: Sauvignon Blanc
*Hoppy IPA’s and Grassy Sauvignon Blancs are both, versatile, bright, bold, and herbs, often featuring notes of citrus
If You Like: Amber/Red Ale
Try: Zinfandel
*Zinfandels are characteristically full and sweet, so lovers of the malt-centric Amber/Red Ale will feel right at home
If You Like: Dobblebock
Try: Merlot
*Merlots have a characteristically smooth finish with a subtle chocolate flavor, making it an easy transition from the palatable and malty Dobbleback
If You Like: Porter
Try: Syrah
*Both Porters and Syrahs are known for being powerful, dark, and full-bodied
If You Like: Stout
Try: Cabernet Sauvignon
*Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark and full-bodied wine with strong and layered fruit flavors. It is the red wine version of a bold and roasted malty stout
If You Like: Barrel Aged
Try: Port
*Ports are strong and jammy dessert wines with flavors as 'in your face' and textured as your favorite barrel-aged beers
If You Like: Cider
Try: Champagne
*If you like your tart and fizzy Ciders, then sparkling wine is right up your alley!
