Meet the Owners - Pinot's Palette Short North
My husband Brian and I had often daydreamed about ditching our jobs in Corporate America to start our own small business. While building successful careers in finance over the past 25 years, our first priority was our family.
We raised our three wonderful children and built many close friendships in Powell, Ohio, which was the place we called home. In 2018, after our two youngest kids graduated high school, we made the unexpected decision to ditch our daily commute into the city and move from the suburbs into Columbus’ Italian Village. We immediately fell in love with our new neighbors and community. Most notably, however, we enjoyed having the ability to walk to and support the many different small businesses in the area.
Over the years, we have been intrigued with meeting and learning from small business owners. We watched as my parents built several small businesses and admired their entrepreneurial spirit and the vibrant relationships they cultivated within their local community. So it wasn’t particularly surprising that it didn’t take long for us to meet some of the wonderful local business owners.
We also learned that the Short North Arts District was “born” in the early 1980s to a handful of people that worked hard to create its identity as a place where artistic culture and small businesses could be celebrated. With a renewed passion, we started exploring our very own small business ideas that were complementary to the rich artistic and small business culture of this area.
That’s when we discovered Pinot’s Palette, a franchise based in Houston TX focused on connecting people using art and fun. After a lot of due diligence and a trip to Houston to meet with the founders and their wonderful team, we knew this could be a great addition to the Short North.
When I tell people about our new business venture, it’s not uncommon for someone to ask about our artistic interests and abilities. I’ll be honest, If you would have asked me the same question a year ago, I would have laughed and explained I had absolutely no artistic ability or interests - absolutely NONE. In fact, I truly believed I couldn’t even draw a legible stick figure.
Brian on the other hand, is naturally talented. Several years ago, he captured some of his favorite Ohio State football memories with paint and canvas. He’s also painted our kid’s favorite super hero logos on their bedroom walls. So I had no doubt he’d be able to pick it right back up again.
To this day, I still don’t consider myself a professional artist. I have, however, successfully created several paintings now. It’s no surprise that Brian’s paintings are still better than mine but I’m quite proud of my more creative side. Most importantly, however, we’ve had a lot of fun painting and spending time doing something we’ve never been able to do as a couple before.
So…..we are extremely excited to introduce you to our new business - Pinot’s Palette Short North. We are looking forward to sharing our upscale paint and sip art studio with the community we’ve grown to love.
We invite you to be our guests, to connect, relax and unwind. Bring your friends or meet someone new as you relax, sip your favorite drink and paint. Our goal is to create a fun atmosphere every time we open our doors and we hope that, like me, you also walk away surprised with the artist that’s hiding in you.
Cheers!
