Luminous Landscapes To Brighten Your Home

Landscape painting is a highly popular artistic genrepresent in many cultures and artistic traditions with a long and established history. Landscape painting encompasses a variety of natural scenes including mountains, rivers, valleys, forests, fields, and coasts. This definition was expanded in the 20th century to include urban and industrial landscapes. Landscape painters are inspired by the world around them and, while landscape paintings are principally figurative, there is a growing tradition of abstract landscapes that developed from the middle of the 20th century onward. Generally speaking, artists depict a landscape to capture its beauty, or to make a comment on the relationship between man and the environment.


Although paintings from the earliest ancient and Classical periods included natural scenic elements, landscape as an independent genre did not emerge in the Western tradition until the Renaissance in the 16th century. In the Eastern tradition, the genre can be traced back to 4th-century-ce China.

Landscape painting began to dominate American art in the early part of the 19th century with idealized images of a vast, unspoiled wilderness that reflected a nation whose identity and belief in its boundless prospects were deeply interwoven with its natural environment.
