What's Your Color Story?
We’ve all probably heard about art being subjective but have you ever given thought to why you may be attracted to particular styles or colors? One person liking or disliking a particular piece of art doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s right or wrong for everyone. I think we can all think back to the struggle of Van Gogh only to realize that what was popular at the time simply didn’t fit into his post-impressionist style. Clearly, his work was not bad; it just wasn’t the preference of the people. Enjoying a particular piece of art is influenced by our personal taste, our feelings, and our color preferences. At Pinot’s Palette Bricktown we like to be sure to include a variety of colors, sizes and subject matter on our schedules because we know that art isn’t ‘one size fits all,’ what I like may be entirely different than the next. When we go through the selection process for our calendars we like to take a number of aspects into consideration; style, subject matter, and color are just a few of the things that we consider when choosing our paintings. As we were working on the perfect painting schedule we started to get *ahem* a little too philosophical and started to wonder about what liking particular colors says about us as people, so down the color wheel rabbit hole we went to find out our (and hopefully yours too) color story. So what does your favorite color say about you??
Red: A color that is full of excitement and conveys energy, determination, and confidence. Generally, those that gravitate towards red have a need for fulfillment and a desire to experience all aspects of life.
Orange: A secondary color that can be made by mixing red with yellow so not surprisingly orange people tend to be a blend of the energy of red with the positivity of yellow, a perfect balance.
Yellow: Lovers of yellow tend to be fun, cheerful and creative.
Green: Our greenies are a loyal, affectionate and honest bunch of people. With green being in the center of the color spectrum, it’s generally thought to be a color of balance and restoration.
Blue: A color that naturally evokes peace and restoration those that gravitate towards blue love harmony, are ardently reliable and sensitive.
Purple: Our purple people are unique, compassionate and gentle. Often associated with royalty purple also gives off a sense of sophistication.
Black: People who like black are often thought to be creative, artistic and sensitive.
Brown: While it probably rarely gets listed as a favorite color brown is essential in art and life and people. For those who love brown, you’re not alone, and you’re in a great place with the most reliable and dependable people out there.
Obviously, this is a compressed summary of what these colors symbolize and mean to us. But it’s interesting to realize that our preferences in art may be dictated more by our personality and emotions then we realized. So many aspects go into our color preferences at a given time, for example, come fall I may switch my preference from black to orange. Keep in mind that surrounding yourself with colors outside of your favorite allows you to change your décor in a way that may end up changing your outlook at the same time.
Take a look at our upcoming calendars and find the perfect painting for your color mood.
