Art Around Oklahoma City
With all of the family that comes to town for the Holiday’s, it’s always good to have some plans about what to do to entertain them and show off the best that Oklahoma City has to offer! While I highly recommend bringing your family to a wonderful paint party here at our studio in Bricktown, I also want to talk about some of the other wonderful art avenues that our fair OKC has to offer!
If you haven’t taken time to visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, I highly recommend stopping what you’re doing and heading that way. Located in the heart of Downtown, at 415 Couch Drive, you can start your experience by enjoying a lovely glass of wine or cocktail at their Café and then mosey over to adore the beautiful work that they have to offer. Their current exhibit is featuring Dutch and Flemish Drawings from the Golden Age, but don’t stop there! Make your way up to the 2nd and 3rd floors to see their permanent collection, including the magnificent Magic & Light exhibit by Dale Chihuly. Any out-of-town guest will find his beautiful use of glass work breathtaking, walking through the ‘Reeds’ is something that you just won’t want to miss!
If you’ve already taken the time to show your guests the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, I would recommend making your way east to Film Row to enjoy the lesser known 21c Museum Hotel, located at 900 W. Main Street. While their rooms are gorgeous on their own, they also have a museum that is free and open to the public 365 days a year. They are a Contemporary Art Museum who curates shows that are undoubtedly thought-provoking. Their current exhibition OFF-SPRING: New Generations features work from a variety of contemporary artists and will be sure to open up the conversation around the dinner table later that evening. If you are looking to enjoy an evening out on the town as well, I highly recommend experiencing the artistic surroundings while eating at the adjoining Mary Eddy’s Kitchen x Lounge.
While you’re making your way around the Oklahoma City, you don’t want to miss out on all of the new mural projects that the city has commissioned local artists to create! Some of the murals that you will not want to miss out on can be found in the underpasses connecting Downtown to Bricktown. The latest addition to these underpass murals is titled ‘Abstract Passages’ by Kris Kanaly, it is located under the Main Street railroad bridge. The use of color and shape to depict a city’s landscape is unparalleled and something that could easily set you into a trance while you try and notice all of the different details!
And heck, since you’re already in Bricktown, why not finish off your day with a wine and palette event at our studio! All of your family will be filled with inspiration to help them in creating their own Pinot’s Palette masterpiece, and of course, a glass of wine wouldn’t hurt either! Until next time, make sure to enjoy some painting, drinking and having fun!
