How Little Rebellions Can Improve Your Life
Rebelliousness doesn’t have to be loud and over-the-top. It can be quiet, sweet, subtle and rewarding:Your child wears their Halloween costume to the grocery store in April? Well, a tiger costume doesn’t interfere with shopping, and it turns a boring day into an exciting one for your child. Be the parent who does things a little differently!
Boss wants you to work late again? Going home on time may feel like rebellion, but it’s probably an act of service to yourself and act of love to your family. By rebelling against one part of your life, you strengthen another.
Interior designer tells you not to arrange your furniture the way you like it? If it improves your ability to enjoy your life, then buck those rules and do it your way. Your house, your rules!
A Little Rebellion Is Good for Your Brain
Teenagers rebel because their developing brains are so active, they’re radically in touch with their emotions and highly concerned with their sense of self. As adults, our brains are wired for habit, we can ignore our feelings and are often more concerned with life’s to-do list than our sense of self. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s good to take a step back and make sure you’re still in touch with yourself.
To help you reconnect with and express yourself, we’re encouraging you to join us for paint and sip – but to do the painting your way! Your colors, your style, your technique, your message. Do what makes you happy. Even if it’s not what the instructors tell you to do. Even if the guy behind you looks at you weird. Even if it doesn’t come out the way you thought it would.
It may seem like the smallest of rebellions, but making the choice to paint differently and figuring out how to best express yourself is actually really good for your brain. It breaks up the neural pathways of habit, makes you think about how you present yourself to the world, and opens up new chambers of creativity in your mind.
This month, find time to join us in your nearest studio and get back in touch with your rebellious side!
