Kansas City Chiefs
So of course by now you know that we are the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS! I'm pretty sure even if you live under a rock, you've still heard. But yesterday, before the game, when I had nothing else to do besides be anxious and enjoy the sun, I started looking up info on the Super Bowl, the trophies and the history of the game. Well after 100 years, there's a LOT of history. Here are some quick fun facts that I would like to share...
The AFC Championship trophy. It is named the Lamar Hunt Trophy, who is also the KC Chiefs original founder and owner. Now his wife, Norma and son, Clark own the team. When a team wins the AFC Championship, they head to the Super Bowl to play the NFC Champ. The Chiefs beat the Tennessee Titans on Jan 19, 2020 35-24 to secure their place in the Super Bowl.
The NFC Championship trophy. It is named the George Halas Trophy, who was also the Chicago Bears founder and owner. Halas, Hunt and other owners created the two divisions and ultimately the Super Bowl to have a final game to see who was best. The San Francisco 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers 37-20 to secure their place in the Super Bowl, and are the NFC Champs.
The Super Bowl. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is the trophy awarded each year to the winning team of the National Football League's championship game, the Super Bowl. The trophy is named in honor of NFL coach Vince Lombardi, who led the Green Bay Packers to victories in the first two Super Bowl games.
The winning team receives permanent possession of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, a sterling silver trophy created by Tiffany & Company, which is presented annually to the winner of the Super Bowl. Each year a new trophy is created and it costs $50,000, and takes four months to complete. Although the value of the silver used to make the trophy is only worth $1,700. The words "Vince Lombardi Trophy" and the NFL shield are engraved onto the base.
