Women's Giving Circle
One of the best groups that I have had the pleasure of being in is the Women's Giving Circle. This group is a division of the Olathe Public School Foundation. It started as 100 women giving $100 towards a greater goal, a $10,000 grant. Last night, we were able to take part in awarding a $15,000 grant to an amazing group. Don't get me wrong, all 3 grant proposals were very deserving, and the Foundation will help them find other funding, but the winner really impacted us.
The grant was called 'A Different Way to Shop,' and it was written by the Olathe South Technology Education Department. The grant money will buy upgraded equipment that the shop kids will use, however, it goes so much further than that. This piece of equipment can be used by everyday students, special needs and advanced students. It can make things as easy as plaques that can be given to sports teams or even special need toys that can be used right in the school. It will be able to allow the students to sell signs and other creations for a profit, therefore teaching them fiscal responsibilities. But the one major aspect of the tool, was that the robotics team will also be able to make parts for their projects at a fracture of the cost and time. These robotics teams are what will get Olathe noticed nationally, which is turns brings in other grants and businesses.
Great job Olathe South, we can't wait to see what you create!
