Top 10 Family Date Ideas
1.) Have a picnic in a park or nature reserve.
We have wonderful parks and trails in the area from The Arboretum, to Ernie Miller, to Kill Creek. Explore one or explore them all. They are all unique and beautiful.
2.) Go on a hike or nature walk.
You can do this one without even having to take the car. Just go outside and pick a direction to go.
3.) Visit a local museum or art gallery.
We have an amazing Nelson-Atkins Art Museum that is downtown, but we also have some closer and smaller options. We have the Johnson County Arts and Heritage, the Nerman Art Museum and the Rice Gallery just to name a few.
4.) Plan a game night at home.
Always a favorite and also include puzzles into this category.
5.) Take an art class together.
So we might be a little partial to this option, BUT we have classes Wednesday-Sunday each week and would love to have your family join us!
6.) Visit a nearby city or town for a day trip.
We have tons of towns that is within a days trip from Olathe. Even the state's capital, Topeka. Plan a route and go. You'll find places to eat along the way.
7.) Have a movie night at home with homemade popcorn.
Don't forget the candy...it will make the movie that much better!
8.) Plan a day at the beach or a nearby lake.
While the beach would require a vacation, we do have a lake! Lake Olathe offers all kinds of activities for all age groups. Check for required passes and for reservations. Activities book up fast, but that's because it's fun!
9.) Attend a local concert or music festival.
We have Olathe Live in the summer along with Fourth Fridays that both offer live music to party and dance to.
10.) Visit a nearby theme or amusement park.
The most well known option in this area would be Worlds of Fun. It can get crazy but the roller coasters don't disappoint!
