Spring Break Ideas
We wanted to start with showing off our fun Spring Break Little Brush options. We do presketch these images onto the canvas and it is for ages 5 and up. While we cannot wait for Spring Break next week, I also wanted to look up some interesting facts about Spring Break...
It all began in Greece and Rome.
The origins of spring break can be traced to Greek and Roman celebrations of spring, known in ancient times as a season of fertility and new beginning. Spring festivities in Greece and Rome revolved around honoring Dionysus and Bacchus, the gods of wine. (Now I love Spring Break even more, honoring Gods of Wine!!!)
It wasn't until the 1930s that it picked up steam in the United States. All starting with college swim team athletes going to Ft. Lauderdale to have spring training. Which in turn started the college level having swim meets in Ft. Lauderdale.
By the 1950s, it had moved beyond just swimmers to all college kids taking a break and heading south. The secret was slowly getting out that this was a party scene.
In the 1980s, MTv aired its first Spring Break show which launched Ft. Lauderdale into mega destination status.
Even today, it is still one of the most popular destinations of college kids.
