<3 KEEP UP WITH TRADITIONS <3
From watching beloved movies and drinking hot cocoa, to riding around looking at lights, decorating the tree, and other much-loved traditions, it’s important to keep them going from year to year!
Some common traditions for the holidays in the United States include:
* Making/decorating a gingerbread house! Those pre-made sets make it easy and provide you with everything you’ll need! Another option is to use graham crackers, some royal icing and candy you’ve saved for this purpose.
* Going sledding, ice skating, or other outdoor winter activity with friends and family.
* ‘Elf on a Shelf’ tradition. The kids love it and it (sometimes) keeps them on their best behavior!
* A visit to Santa! Do your research and find out what times of the day are best to this, like mid-week during the evening.
* Seeing local productions of ‘The Nutcracker,’ ‘A Christmas Carol,’ or another holiday-themed show.
* Riding around to look at lights (or visiting a drive-through light park installation).
* Baking and decorating cookies! You can bump up the fun factor even more and invite friends over to share their cookie recipes, and bring their kids along to spend time with your little ones!
<3 MAKE NEW TRADITIONS <3
If you aren’t already started participating in traditions such as these, they’re all excellent ideas that you could try this year!
* Have a Book Exchange
Time off work, time with family, time at home—it's the perfect opportunity to do some December reading. Share the books you've loved this year with your family, and host a holiday book swap.
* Give Back
Volunteer as a family at your community's food bank this season, or find another opportunity in your town to give back together.
* Have a Hot Cocoa and S'mores Night
Don't forget the marshmallows! If it's a cold December night, light a fire in the chimney, grab a mug of hot chocolate, and make a pile of s'mores in the kitchen. Add some Christmas movies and you’ve got yourself a perfect stay home night!
