Happy Halloween!
The sweetest holiday of the year is here and we’re ALL ABOUT the candy!
Whether you’re handing our candy, going Trick-or-Treating, OR staying home and staying safe with just a bag (or 4) or candy :)
Comfort yourself with some delicious sweets and the perfect drinks to pair with them this October 31st… and the days after… with this list of pairings.
ENJOY!
-- WINE AND CANDY PAIRINGS --
M&M's Merlot
The milk chocolate and hard candy coating pair well with the velvety tannins of a Merlot. The aromas of black currant and notes of toasted oak followed by juicy fruit flavors offer a smooth finish to the sweet chocolate.
Kit Kats and Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir’s bold fruit forward flavors of cherry and plum will make this wafer candy taste like an adult version of a chocolate dipped cherry. The earthy element of a Pinot Noir will help elevate the chocolate flavors as well.
Skittles and Sparkling Rosé
A fun and bubbly direct press rosé like Winc’s 2017 Ruza cans pairs perfectly with the assortment of fruit flavors found in Skittles
Hershey's and Red Zinfandel
Hershey’s creamy milk chocolate will seem to have slight berry flavors woven into every bite when paired with a rich Zinfandel.
Sour Gummi Worms and Sauvignon Blanc
The fruit-forward flavors of zesty citrus and peach will pair nicely with fruity candies such as lemon Sour Patch Kids or a cherry Jolly Rancher (yummy with Sour Patch Kids, too!)
Milky Way and Sparkling Dry White
This Halloween favorite can also be enjoyed alongside some bubbles, like Finke's, a sparkling white blend from California. This fresh and light wine is a welcome accompaniment to the classic nougat and caramel treat.
York Peppermint Patties and Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark chocolate and a great glass of cabernet are an unbeatable combination, but something with a hint of spice like a full-bodied Mourvèdre would also be delicious to pair with dark chocolate
Snickers and A Dry Red Blend
The combination of chocolate and caramel requires a robust and flavorful red like Winc's DIME, which is bold enough to stand up to the the rich flavors found in a Snickers bar, and will complement the saltiness of the nuts.
Peanut Butter Cups and Cabernet Sauvignon
A dark red varietal of Cabernet Sauvignon offers profiles of jammy fruit including black cherry and blackberry, which will complement the chocolaty peanut butter combo well.
-- BEER AND CANDY PAIRINGS --
Candy Corn and Cream Ale
Candy corn has been around since the 19th century; coincidentally, so have cream ales. This refreshingly crisp, light-bodied golden ale has a balanced sweetness and high carbonation making it the perfect beer to accompany candy corn’s sweet vanilla-marshmallow flavor
Tootsie Rolls + English-Style Barleywine
Tootsie Rolls might be overlooked and labeled as an outdated, one-dimensional confection. But you’ll bring the candy to a new level when you pair it with a complex English-style barleywine. The barleywine’s caramel-toffee malt character welcomes the creamy chocolate sweetness of the Tootsie Roll and balances it with subtle warmth and bready-biscuit notes.
Dots + New England IPA
Hazy/New England IPAs are everything a gumdrop should be: juicy, sweet, and exploding with fruit flavor. Dots don’t exactly hit all these marks with their hard texture and hint of fruit flavor, but the redeeming quality keeping them in circulation for all these years is their generous supply of syrupy sweetness, making them a worthy companion to the big, aromatic hops and the tropical fruit flavors of a New England IPA.
Milk Duds + Amber Ale
Despite their odd shape and a “Will I bust a filling?” chewy texture, Milk Duds provide a milk chocolate and caramel pairing slam dunk themselves. But trust us: you haven’t lived until you’ve had a box of Milk Duds in one hand and a glass of a sessionable amber ale beer in the other. The amber ale provides plenty of crystal malt to enhance the Milk Duds’ chocolate as well as impart additional caramel notes. You’ll also find a slight, dry bitterness emerges — until you realize both your glass and the little yellow box are empty.
