April Fools' Day has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages; There are several theories about how the holiday originated during that time period.
One theory is that it’s linked to the transition from the ‘Julian' to the ‘Gregorian' calendar in the late 16th century. In some countries, the new calendar moved the start of the year from April 1st to January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate the new year in April were seen as foolish or out of touch, leading to pranks and ridicule.
Another theory is that April Fools' Day is linked to ancient spring festivals, such as Hilaria in Rome or Holi in India, which were times of celebration and revelry. In medieval Europe, these festivals were often marked by pranks and mischievous behavior.
During the Middle Ages, April Fools' Day was known as "the Feast of Fools" in some parts of Europe. It was a time of role reversal, with commoners and fools taking on the roles of priests and bishops, and parading through the streets in elaborate costumes and masks.
These celebrations often included loud and disrespectful behavior, such as mocking religious rituals, singing indecent songs, and throwing food and drink. While these practices were eventually banned by the church, the spirit of mischief and playfulness continued on in the form of April Fools' Day pranks and jokes.

In India, April Fools' Day is known as "Huli," which means "sour." People will often play pranks on each other and then say "Huli" to reveal that it was all a joke.
Brazil
In Brazil, April Fools' Day is celebrated on April 1st and is known as "Dia da Mentira," which means "Day of Lies." One common prank is to tell someone that something has happened to their loved ones, such as a car accident, and then reveal that it was a joke.
Iran
In Iran, April Fools' Day is celebrated on the 13th day of the Persian New Year, which falls in late March or early April. The day is known as "Sizdah Bedar" and is a time for outdoor picnics and pranks.
Italy: In Italy, April Fools' Day is known as "Pesce d'Aprile," which means "April fish." People will often attach paper fish to their friends' backs, similar to the French tradition.
