How Can You Make The Best Of This Thanksgiving?
We know things are going to be very different for Thanksgiving this year for most of us; Families can’t gather in large headcount, football is awkward with no fans, and those who do gather will likely be in masks, sitting 6 feet apart from one another.
While some adjustments are going to have to be made, there are still plenty of great ways to be thankful for what we have and spend time with loved ones.
Thank goodness this awful virus has infiltrated our lives in a time when there’s so much technology; We’re able to call, text FaceTime, and gather for a video conference at the drop of a hat.
Use these modern day advances to your advantage as often as you can. It only takes but a minute to send a “thinking of you” text to your grandparents or a phone call to you mom, and why not do a Zoom meeting for cookie decorating and tree trimming this year?
** Here are some ways you can make the best of this Thanksgiving:
-- Watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
While the parade's structure has been modified (it will be TV-only, to limit crowds), the show's still on! Get cozy on the couch and tune into this time-honored tradition.
-- Stir Up a Festive Cocktail
Feeling stressed this Thanksgiving? Treat yourself to an artfully crafted cocktail, composed with autumnal flavors in mind. From mulled wine to a pumpkin pie martini, there's a Thanksgiving beverage for every palette.
-- Cook Thanksgiving Dinner
Perhaps the most obvious of the Thanksgiving activities, cooking dinner (including a turkey, of course) is both a safe and delicious holiday activity. Whether you're cooking for your immediate family or just for one, crafting the meal is half the fun. Not in the mood to spend all day in the kitchen?
-- Queue Up a Thanksgiving Movie Marathon
If you're going all in on the TV-watching this year, conclude your evening with a classic Thanksgiving movie. From You've Got Mail to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, there are plenty of options to choose from.
-- Take a Walk or Hike
Soak up the last of the fall foliage, and take a Thanksgiving stroll. Whether it's just a walk around your neighborhood or a full-fledged hike, it'll feel good to get some fresh air.
-- Dress Up
Even if you're only seeing people over Zoom, make the day festive by donning a chic look. Take a page from the Duchess of Cambridge's book and try out a chic tartan print for the holiday. But, whatever you choose, make sure there's plenty of room in the waist.
-- Take Advantage Of Modern-Day Technology
While many of us are sick of Zoom parties at this point, it's hard to spend Thanksgiving without family. Make the call a little more special by adding in an activity, like turkey preparation or a Thanksgiving-themed quiz (use these factsfor inspiration).
It only takes a moment to send a “Thinking Of You” text to a grandparent or an “I love you” text to a parent and it goes a long way (especially right now).
