Summer is here and that means a to of free time for the kids (and hopefully you, too!). While they probably have some great ideas of ways to fill the long days (like YouTube videos and hitting the top level of the hottest game), you might want them to get out there and enjoy the lovely weather, staying active throughout the Summer months; You’re also probably looking for some great ways to spend time with your kids while they’re on break, as well!
We’ve listed a few ideas for a Summer, filled with great fun, so enjoy and have a wonderful break!
*** *** *** What are some ideas for things to do, now that school is out this Summer? *** *** ***
— Go On A Vacation
This one is self explanatory but nevertheless it’s important. The routine of day-to-day life can be stressful. Going on vacation allows you to get away from all the stress of your every day life. You can decompress, recharge, and give yourself a mental and emotional makeover. It also doesn’t hurt that vacations are fun.
— Save Money With A STAYcation
Looking to get away for a bit but don’t have the time or money to go on a long vacation our of the state or country? There’s lots of options for staycations!

— Find The Nearest Body Of Water
Lake Michigan and the Chicago River are a couple of places where we love to hang out in the city during the summer. Bring your cooler and hop onto one of the electric boats that cruise along the legendary Chicago River. This experience is a unique and an environmentally friendly way to see the beautiful sites and architecture of Chicago. You can drive your own boat, or hire someone to drive you around the river. We love going on an evening cruise and watching the fireworks, which take place every Wednesday and Saturday night in the summer, right off the Chicago River by Navy Pier. Also, check out the brand-new Chicago Cycle Boats. It’s BYOB or BYOF (bring your own food) as well, and fun with a large group of people. Pedalers sit on comfortable bike seats at a table as they pedal at their own pace on the Chicago River. Riders can sit or stand while they enjoy the view. The bikes are electric with a captain guiding the way, so pedaling is fun but entirely optional.
— Enjoy Some Cold, Fruity and Herby Drinks
With summer finally here, the aisles of the supermarkets and the shelves of the farmer’s markets are filled with the best, freshest produce right now just begging to be mixed into premium, artisan cocktails. But if you don’t drink alcohol, there is no reason to miss out on this concoctions. Too often drink stations at parties have an array of beers and mixers for cocktails but a sad container of water or store bought juice for those who choose to abstain. Fix that at your next party. Whatever your reason for teetotaling, these amazingly fresh summer sippers put mocktails back on the map with bold, refreshing ingredients, helping you beat the heat and conquer your thirst without skimping on style or flavor.
*And hey, if the mood strikes you, you can always add a splash of liquor to any of the following recipes, so it’s a mixology win-win.
One of the best things about summer are the fruity drinks. Smoothies are amazing and there are hundreds of places that sell them. If you’re into making them at home you can find thousands of recipes. For adults, adding a little alcohol to them is never a bad idea. The Piña colada was invented for this time of year. Do yourself a favor and make yourself a nice big smoothie.

— Hike and Camp
Enjoying the great outdoors is always a good suggestion. Grabbing the old tent and sleeping bag, trekking out to the middle of nowhere, and sleeping there can be a liberating and refreshing experience. You’ll be away from civilization, away from the Internet, and bonding with nature. It’s great exercise too!
— Take Advantage Of Some Great Books

— Unplug And Connect With Loved Ones
Put away your phones and tablets and spend some quality time with your friends and a family this summer! Think back to the days of being present without any way for others that aren’t with you, to reach you… It’s really nice (and important) sometimes to disconnect from the outside world and just live in the moment with your kids, spouse, bffs, and family members as you catch up with one another and how everything is going in your lives.
— Go To An Outdoor Concert
Summer is a great time to go see an outdoor show. A lot of artists tour during the summer and most large cities have an outdoor venue. There are even a boat load of festivals available where you can go see acts from multiple genres. Outdoor shows have more freedom than indoor shows and there is nothing that isn’t enjoyable about sitting in the grass with a beer and listening to music you enjoy.
— Have A BBQ
Fire up the grill and the smoker because it’s summer! There is no better time to have a BBQ and invite your friends, neighbors, and family over. It’s a fun time and it’s a great way to bond with the people you care about. BBQ is also delicious and with all of the other activities you’ll be doing, it’ll be easy to keep the weight off too.

— Start A Garden
Your green thumb is throbbing, but it's almost July. Is it too late to start your garden? Lucky you, because the answer is no! If you live in a cooler climate, you're probably not even that far away from your last frost date. The key to gardening in the summer is picking the veggies and flowers that thrive during this time of year. Even if you're short on time, you can still plant a few things in containers and proudly show them off on your front stoop or back porch.
