How to Paint Reflections!
Items Needed:- A Flat Brush
- Acrylic Paint
- Chardonnay, Cabernet or Pinot Grigio (optional)
Why do we need to paint reflections? Reflections make paintings come to life! A lake, a sunset, a moon glow are boring and flat if you don’t see the glistening reflections of nature in your painting. Painting a reflection is basically just painting the same thing twice, sometimes upside down and slightly altered to give the impression of the object you want to be reflected.
First, you will need a small flat brush. A flat brush will allow you to paint the thin lines need to create your reflection. Hold your brush so that the bristles are sideways. This will give you a nice fine line. Paint with a quick swiping motion from side to side, only using your wrist. You may use more pressure in the middle of your swipe to create a thicker, more realistic line for your reflection.
Try not to over think! The quicker you make the swiping motion, the straighter your line will be!
If you would like to show off your new technique or learn how to make beautiful reflections from one of our professional artists, we have plenty of classes this month using this technique! Here are a few:
