A Girl's Night Out - Doctor's Orders!
A study at UCLA concluded that girlfriends are stress-busters for women and have an impact on overall mood. It seems that when we're around friends, the mood-elevating hormone oxytocin is released, increasing our feelings of euphoria. Women with abundant friendships (the more, the merrier!) also decrease their risk of death.
Having girlfriends makes a women a partner, mother, employee, and person. Even if it's an hour with a good girlfriend, you will feel the benefits. It's like a human anti-depressant.
The day to day life of a mother and wife can be isolating; we can feel disconnected. It's nice to relax and be exactly who you are and know you're loved and appreciated for it. And, that’s what girlfriends do. They are our cheerleaders, our shoulder to lean on and always the best therapist in town. We NEED friend time! We need a night to be silly, a night to forget about every single responsibility. Remember that fun and free-spirited girl in high school that lived for the weekends? She’s still there and needs to have a girl’s night out! The family and work will be fine. Low and behold they will be there when you arrive home with a little less stress on your shoulders.
