How to Stipple!
What is Stippling? Stippling is taking your paintbrush and punching it directly onto the canvas allowing the tips of bristles of the brush to create its own design. Stippling is used in creating leaves, bushes, trees, clouds, hair, stars, ocean waves… the list is endless!
For this example, we will show how to stipple trees.
What you will need:
- A Medium Flat Brush.
- Your choice of color of paint.
- Canvas
Step #1 – Use a little bit of paint. To get the stipple effect you want to use just enough paint to cover the tip of your brush. Using a lot of paint will just cause a paint blob on your canvas, and you will lose the texture of your brush.
Step #2 – Starting at the bottom of your tree use short vertical punches as wide as you would like your tree to be slowly moving side to side. As you move up your tree decrease the width of your side-to-side strokes until you reach the top of your tree.
