Holiday Wine Pairings
We just got through Thanksgiving, and it’s only the beginning of the holiday season. If you joined us earlier this month for the Porch Board class, you would have enjoyed the holiday wine tasting. Luckily for you if you missed the tasting, we will be featuring six different wines through the end of the year that will pair very well with your holiday festivities. So if you’re in the studio this month, or searching for some great wines that pair well with your holiday gatherings (and won’t break the bank), then check out our end of year wines below:Prosecco
Benaccetto Prosecco Brut
This is a dry sparkling wine with light effervescence with a slight hint of fruity notes. Sparkling wines are always a good go-to wine that pair really nicely with most dishes or a large spread of food. Additionally, because it pairs well with a lot, it doesn’t overpower anything on the table. Plus, it’s always fun to add to a cocktail.
Chardonnay
Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Chardonnay
This isn’t your buttery Napa Chardonnay, it is a take on the old-world classic Chardonnay that is lush and silky. It is a lively wine that is full of flavors like apple, pear and peach with a hint of brioche. A full-bodied white wine, like this Chardonnay, can pair really well with heavier dishes like prime rib or rich, creamy dishes like mashed potatoes or alfredo.
Pinot Noir
Loveblock Pinot Noir
Coming all the way from Central Otago, New Zealand, this Pinot Noir has flavors of black plum, with layers of cherry and sweet berries that play on the palate and dance with hints of violet and savory notes. This Pinot Noir is perfect for any holiday feast since it is a little lighter in body and not overly tannic, so that it won’t interfere with the flavors of your holiday feast.
Tempranillo
Cune Rioja Gran Reserva
This red wine from the Rioja region in Spain is a great alternative to your typical Cabernet Sauvignon. This Tempranillo is velvety with fruit flavors such as blackberry and fig and slight balsamic aftertaste. This wine will pair really well with the red meat dishes, but can also nicely accompany lighter meat dishes such as lamb or chicken.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Avalon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
A Napa Cabernet Sauvignon can usually pack a punch, but this one comes in a little softer than your average Cab. It has hints of blackberry, plum as well as raspberry, cherry and strawberry. With its oak aging, the finish of vanilla or chocolate is present. Save this wine for the main course as long as it’s a red meat or portobello mushrooms!
All of these wines are on special at Pinot’s Palette Leawood through the end of the year. So even if you don’t pair them with your holiday meals, they always pair well with a fun painting night out! Cheers!
