Wonderful Ways To Unwind After Work
At the end of a long and stressful work day, after sitting in traffic, we finally arrive home. We kick off our shoes, scrounge up something to eat, veg out in front of the tv for a bit, then get ready to do it all over again, the next day. It’s easy to get caught up in a daily routine and loose time and energy in the process. It can get exasperating to work for 8-9 hours, then come home and try to de-stress from your day. We’ve found some effective and easy-to-do ideas that are worth a try! These are simple, and perhaps, seemingly-obvious, ways to unwind, but they’re reliable and actually kind of fun to do!
Give them a try and see what a difference a few, relaxing acts can make on the closure of your day!
1- Go for a walk.
*Something as simple and ordinary as taking a walk around your neighborhood, can be really good for your mind... (and also your lungs, heart, and waistline!).
Something about walking in nature, watching the sunset, and getting some fresh air, is perfection!
Any light, mentally relaxing, form of exercise can be amazing as a de-stressor! Try a quick yoga session or go for a short, easy bike ride, to achieve the same effects!
Be sure to leave your phone at home for complete and total time to yourself.
2- Cook a delicious meal.
*Whether you’re a great chef, always looking to try out a new recipe, or just the ‘occasional cook’, try getting in the kitchen to relax, it can be a great way to unwind. Cooking is a form of creativity, which is always a good way to de-stress and do a mindless activity.
Creating a delicious dinner for yourself and your family can be just what you need, in the form of self-expression, to help you relax
...(Or go out to dinner)
*Not everyone wants to walk through the door and immediately commit to, what can feel like, “more work”, in their minds. Take the pressure off and treat yourself to a delicious meal, out, after a long, hard day... you deserve it!
3- Paint
*As mentioned above, any form of creative and self-expressionism, can go a long way in helping mental health! Doing anything from painting or drawing, journaling, cooking, knitting, or even coloring in a coloring book, can take a load off your mind!
Painting is especially relaxing, as it’s a very “mindless” task, where there’s no wrong was to do it. You can just paint whatever moves you, listen to some music, and relax!
Obviously, we're HUGE fans of this one... we enjoy using artwork as a way to relax, be happy, and set out minds free. We can help you with THIS ONE, as we offer painting classes for everyone at our studio!

4- Listen to music
*Music can be a wonderful way to de-stress after a long day, and can even start on your ride home! Throw on whatever tunes you’re in the mood for, and see how your stress level, instantly changes!
**Try something out of the usual with your music.— ‘Classical’!
It’s been shown that classical music can actually alleviate stress and promote good health. Put on a Pandora station, relax, and let the music take control.
5- Take a long bath or shower
*This one may seem like a no-brainer, but we had to put it in the mix. Baths and showers can help to calm your mind, relax your body, and help you sleep. For a bath with an extra calming effect, try adding in eucalyptus or lavender essential oils, which have been proven to help reduce stress!
