What to Wear to Paint and Sip
If you’re anything like us, you change clothes a few times before you make it out the door for a night out. Add the possibility of getting paint on your clothes, and wardrobe selection becomes even trickier.Paint and sip is a social event, and there’s usually a nice dinner somewhere in the evening’s plans. You don’t want to wear the paint-covered sweatpants leftover from your last big DIY project. But you really don’t want to risk dripping paint on your favorite “night out” ensemble.
As avid painters ourselves, we have a few tricks for picking the perfect thing to wear to paint and sip. But let’s start by saying that the majority of Pinot’s Palette attendees leave with their clothes just as clean as when they came in. Whew!
KEEP IT SIMPLE
In the interest of risk management, leave the $200 designer jeans at home in favor of an inexpensive pair. Stick with something cute but not fussy, like skinny jeans, patent flats, and a pretty top.
It’s probably wise to avoid wearing anything white, made of silk, of sentimental value, or extremely expensive. We’ve got aprons to protect your clothes, and generally there aren’t large amounts of paint ending up places other than the canvas. Even so, it’s a good idea not to wear anything that you would be devastated to lose.
DESIGNATE AN OFFICIAL PAINTING OUTFIT
Here’s a real pro tip: Just wear the same thing every time you do paint and sip. Lots of our guests have a designated “painting outfit.” Could be a whole outfit, or just a sweater you use to cover up the jaw-dropping date night outfit underneath.
When you have an official paint and sip outfit, it’s not stressful when paint or wine splatters happen, and it doesn’t doom the outfit to the trash.
DEEP-DIVE INTO YOUR CLOSET
You know those clothes that you can’t get rid of but never actually wear? Here’s the perfect opportunity to get some use out of them.
Dig into the darkest reaches of your walk-in to find something you like enough to have kept all this time, but aren’t so in love with you’d be upset if it got ruined.
CAMOUFLAGE WITH COLOR
Here’s a truly mad-genius idea for deciding what to wear to paint and sip events: Wear something multi-colored and with a bold pattern. You know, something that paint drops will blend right in with.
Statement floral prints, colorful critter prints, intergalactic leggings, rainbow stripes or check prints, ‘80s-inspired gear (thank you, tie dye!), and other styles that have a lot going on.
If you’re feeling particularly detail oriented, check the studio calendar to see what painting you’ll be working on, and pick something in complementary colors so any stray paint will blend right in.
APRONS ARE ALWAYS IN STYLE
In addition to our aprons, you’ll also have the option to put purses or other wardrobe accessories in a safe place, far from errant paint. Whatever you choose to wear to paint and sip, it’s sure to be a photo-worthy night.
