Hype for Hoopfest
There a few big events in Spokane that we're proud to boast about. From Bloomsday to Pig Out in the Park, we've got a lot of fun to look forward to once the sunny weather hits. Perhaps our crème de la crème of huge events is none other than the annual Hoopfest Tournament!
The largest event of its kind in the world, Hoopfest drew more than 27, 000 players in 2011 alone! Matches are made between teams of three, the only requirement being participants are in at least the third grade the fall of registration for the event. From seventeen to seventy-years-old, there's a wide crowd out in the sun having fun!
The first tournament was held in 1990 with 512 teams, and its grown wildly since. Aside from players, attendance has been reported above 250,000 people. There is a variety of booths, vendors and fun activities to be had outside the courts. Around 40 city blocks are cordoned off for the fun.
This year, we don't want to miss out on the good times either! We're going to have an Open Studio for people to swing in between matches. With mini paintings and some refreshing drinks, it will be the perfect way to unwind and cool off from that summer heat!
