March Is National Women’s History Month! Let’s Celebrate!
National Women’s History Month traces its roots to March 8, 1857, when women from various New York City factories staged a protest over poor working conditions. The first Women's Day celebration in the United States was in 1909, also in New York City. More than seven decades later, Congress in 1981 established National Women's History Week to be commemorated annually the second week of March. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month and every year since has passed a resolution (and the president has issued a proclamation) designating March Women’s History Month.
The goal of Women’s History Month is to highlight the achievements and contributions made by a variety of women in a variety of fields: filmmakers, artists, engineers, and pioneers of all kinds.
Throughout time, women have played a vital role in U.S. history. Therefore, Women’s History Month seeks to give credit where credit is due and recognize the women who have changed the world in so many different ways.
Here are a few simple ways to celebrate Women’s History Month on your own:

But spending time with the women in your family... Now, that is something really special.

More Ways To Celebrate:
** Put it in writing
Think of a woman you look up to and admire. She can be someone in your personal life or a public figure. Write her a letter describing the impact she has had on your life. Your thoughtful gesture is sure to be appreciated.
** Have a girl's lunch
Lunch, breakfast, or dinner — it doesn’t matter. Grab your granny, cousin Cheryl, or great-aunt Mimi and grab a bite to eat. Having the chance to spend some one-on-one time with the lovely ladies in your life is a great way to reconnect and remind them how much they mean to you. Who knows, they may even tell some interesting stories you’ve never heard before.
** Read up on women's history
There are some excellent museums dedicated entirely to the accomplishments of women. If you don’t happen to live near one of these places, many venues set up special exhibits during National Women’s History Month.
