Your Art, Your Way!
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”― Ralph Waldo Emerson
While man-made art has technically been around for an astounding 40,000 years, in the form of a rock sculpture, there has been much debate about what is considered “art” and what isn’t, over the past few decades. As the styles and techniques change throughout the years, the concept of ‘art’ has long been something for art critics and people, in general, to discuss and debate. Perhaps someone who has an art degree and has been in the art scene for their whole lives, making it, buying it, critiquing it, and writing about it, may claim to be the deciding voice on the debate of ‘is that art or not?’, but who’s to say that their option is the one that matters most?
To us, art is something that makes you feel something… anything…
It speaks to you, whether you’re the one creating it, letting your creativity take hold and going with what moves you, or the one observing it, allowing the beautiful colors and subjects to touch you in some way. Art is beauty, anger, heartache, memories, oppression, happiness; it's someone’s heart and soul, poured onto a canvas (or shown in some other form), for all the world to observe and contemplate. To us, there is only one rule to art: It should be something that speaks to you, makes you feel, and brings out something inside of you when creating or observing it.
When you attend a painting and wine class at Pinot’s Palette, YOU get to create art, YOUR way!!! It’s your art and your rules and we fully respect and appreciate that! We always encourage creativity and thinking outside of the box. Some of the best paintings are the ones that people put themselves into and truly make their own way. Whether it’s something as simple changing the color of the background, or as complex as creating an entirely different painting that the one being taught, making your art, your way, is amazing!
If you’ve never attended one of our classes, and haven’t picked up a paint brush since you were 10 years old, it can seem a bit intimidating. Let us assure you that there is only fun, positive times to be had in our studio! We were actually created for the novice… for the inexperienced first-timer…
We proudly state that “anyone can paint” and it’s true! Whether you’re brand new to this hobby or have been painting for years, you’ll enjoy a trip to Pinot’s Palette! We have a helpful, trained staff, including a talented and encouraging artist, who will walk you through the painting, step-by-step. There will always be someone to help you out, should you get stuck and need further instruction or help fixing your painting in any way.
The great thing about acrylic paint is that you can always try again! You can fix a “happy accident” as Bob Ross called them (never a mistake), and try again. Once your happy accident dries, paint over the spot to try again or blend in the area you’re unhappy with. It’s ok… we’ve done it before… it’s only paint! Our team of talented artists and assistants can help if you get stuck and many times, the happy accident is not as bad as you may think! Use your unsteady hand to make the most perfect trees in a landscapes painting… trees, grass, and other natural depictions always look more realistic if they’re imperfect, appearing crooked, and uneven! Maybe landscapes are your “thing” in that case; maybe that’s the style of painting that you’re best at and will enjoy, most!
We truly hope that everyone who comes through our door enjoys themselves during this unique, creative experience. Try not to get too stressed if you’re painting doesn’t look like the artist instructor’s… that a GOOD thing! Add your own, personal touch to anything you create to make it a truly unique, one of a kind, personal masterpiece! You’ll get so much out of the experience (and so many compliments from others in the class), if you throw caution to the wind, and go with what feels good when you’re painting! Have fun exploring the endless colors, shapes, and styles of art. Dig deep into yourself and see what you find. Who knows, painting might just turn out to be a hidden outlet you need knew you had; something to relive stress, to promote creativity, and a catalyst for the next chapter of your life….
Whatever you get out of a painting and wine class at Pinot’s Palette will be positive, as new experiences are always a good thing, no matter the outcome. To try something different and gain more knowledge in this world, always promotes personal growth and you’re better off for having tried something new. We hope you’ll join us for a class soon, and challenge yourself to think outside the box and create a work of art that YOU love, because that’s all that really matters: what you think and feel about your art. We have tons of styles of classes, from landscapes and floral paintings, to animals, people, and more! There’s something for everyone, so if you’re living (or visiting) in or around the Puyallup area, we’d love to see you and hope you’ll embrace something unfamiliar and remember that it’s your art… and it’s your rules!
