You Smell What??
Oakey? Fruity? Buttery? These words get thrown around a lot when people break open a new bottle of wine. Do you know what they mean? Each of these words is used to describe the aroma of a wine. It can get a little detailed and confusing, but thankfully Missouriwines.org made this awesome infographic to explain it all!
There are four main categories of wine aroma:
Fruit - Probably the simplest, different wines can smell like citrus, berries and more
Earth - Wines can smell mineral-like or even like fresh cut grass
Wood - Comes from aging in oak barrels, words like spice or caramel come to mind
Other - Some aromas in this category include butter, leather, and even meat

PS If your wine smells like wet dog or newspaper, throw it out!
