Summer Wine Series, What Makes a Summer Wine?
Drinking wine isn't rocket science, nor should choosing the right wine for the occasion. Summer temperatures allow everyone to enjoy the outdoors, and there are few things more than enjoying a nice glass of wine in a pleasant setting. Unless you're like me and grill year-round, the summer also means more outdoor cooking. Whether it's out back on the patio/deck, at a tailgate party, or camping; Summer is the time for outdoor eating, and grilling is king! Here in the Hampton Roads area, that also means heat and humidity, and a full-bodied red wine will do little to make you feel refreshed.
White and Rosé wines are perfect for Summer sipping. Look for descriptors such as "Crisp", "Zesty", "Light", "Refreshing", "Vibrant", "Zingy", "Citrusy", and "Fragrant". Finding wines that are also slightly carbonated (a by-product of further fermenting in the bottle) as this will have an effervescence effect further enhancing your drinking experience. Life is too short not to enjoy a good glass of wine, and there's no better place to enjoy that wine than while painting a beautiful painting at Pinot's Palette in Norfolk, VA.
