Disconnect to Reconnect
Do you suffer from Nomophobia? It is the fear of being without your mobile phone or being unable to use your phone for some reason, such as the absence of a signal or running out of minutes or battery power.Do you have multiple cell phones or social media accounts? Do you take your iPad to the beach on vacation? Ever find it hard to sit still for a bit without checking Instagram, other social media platforms, or playing a game?
If you recognize that in yourself – or your friends, families or colleagues— join us for the National Day of Unplugging, sign the Unplug pledge and start living a different life: connect with the people in your street, neighborhood and city, have an uninterrupted meal or read a book to your child.
Turn off your cell phone and other electronics for a few hours or the day! The National Day of Disconnecting is celebrated from sundown on March 9th until sundown on March 10th! Disconnect from the Digital World in order to Reconnect with the ones you love.
Need help thinking of some ways to unplug? We've got some tips and suggestions just for you!
1. Adopt an Electronic Curfew - set a specific time in the day to check emails or catch up on social media feeds. In the evening decide on a time to power down your electronics and give yourself a break!
2. Read a (Physical) Book!
3. Go out in the Real World - Colorado weather permitting get outside! Go for a hike and bring the pups with you! If you're feeling adventurous hike Horsetooth Rock or any of our beautiful mountains!
4. Come Paint! Drink! and Have Fun! with us here at Pinot's Palette in Old Town! We have a variety of painting events during the week of unplugging for you to choose from!
5. Visit other local shops here in Old Town/ Downtown Fort Collins!
The project is an outgrowth of The Sabbath Manifesto, an adaption of our ancestors’ ritual of carving out one day per week to unwind, unplug, relax, reflect, get outdoors, and connect with loved ones.
