Date Night Paintings
Date Night PaintingsDate Night is a general term we use to describe a collaborative picture that is painted on two canvases by two different people. It doesn't have to be a date, or a night. But when we do a 'Date Night' style painting, there is definitely communication, bonding, and hopefully the embracing of differences in style. Discussion but also tolerance of each other's methods is essential. I love seeing paintings which really reflect the painters' personalities. Date night paintings are fantastic for this, because you get to see the dynamic of a pair, as well as the individualism.
There are many paintings which are designed for a two-canvas layout, and we do have classes with these specific paintings. But there are many of our single-canvas scenes which are perfectly suited to adapt onto two! Any time we have a scene which has some symmetry, you and your painting partner have the opportunity to make it into a date night style. We will help when we need to, but for the most part you just have to be open to expanding your scene and making the various elements to scale. You can do it!
The painting in the picture with this blog was originally designed as a single-canvas-portrait-orientation scene. The couple who decided to paint it, however, decided to adjust to their own personal decor preferences by turning it into a landscape-orientation, wooden pallet, date night version, and wow! It turned out so great! I think this was a perfect example of how you could easily modify so many of our paintings to be a sweet, possibly romantic, occasion! Thanks for painting, and for sharing your creativity!
