New Year, New You!

"Your Year, Your Rules" is the catch phrase for Pinot’s Palette in 2017. The idea is to get people to become more creative with their canvas and to make it their own. This includes changing the colors, adding words or phrases, or going completely rogue and creating your own vision. Doing this does, however, require some creativity and courage. Many people have a hard time figuring out how to be creative. How can we adjust our mindset to let the creative juices flow? How can I think less to create more? After doing some research, we came up with some ways to become creative.

The first thing you must do to become creative is to let go of being a perfectionist. Once you start trying to perfect your painting is the moment you close your creativity door. This is when you will stop trying new things and experimenting which in turn, will inhibit your ability to be creative.

Another thing that is important to do is to listen to others feedback but don’t always hear them. People have their opinion just as you have your own but creativity requires you to create your own path instead of going down one blazed by someone else. This will lead to something created originally by you and that is something to be proud of.

Another thing that is somewhat counter-intuitive is realizing that failing is okay. Not everything you do is going to turn out exactly the way you want it to. Failure is part of the learning and creativity process. Bad ideas are going to happen but can lead to other wonderful ideas. Embrace this part of the process to really enhance your creativity. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”-Lao Tzu

The final thing you can do to open your mind is create an environment that will promote creativity. Some things you can do are keep the lights dim. This provides the mind with more freedom of thought. Also, surrounding yourself with the color, blue is supposed to enhance creativity. And last, but definitely not least, moderate intoxication improves problem solving and creates sudden insights.
