Paint Theory 101
Paint Theory 101Did you know that not all black paints are the same? Neither are blue, red or yellow paints!
If you are a hair stylist or makeup artist, you would already know this. Not all colors have the same shades or underlying pigment. Mars Black is what we use in our studio, we use this specific color to mix with yellow so we can create a dark cool green. This black has a blue base, meaning it is a heavily pigmented blue. Cobalt Blue and Chrome Yellow, on the other hand will make a warm light green. To darken or ‘cool down’ a color such as a primary red, you would add Mars Black. When it comes to hair color, if you do not want warmth in your dark hair, you would go to the hair supply store and pick up a blue black (1B or 2B) hair color because the blue will cancel out any warmth.
In summary, cosmetologists make great painters too!
