Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just walk in and paint?

No – we’re only open for scheduled classes, which you can browse on our event calendar. Reservations are required and can be made online. If you’re looking for a less structured painting experience we recommend coming to one of our Open Studio sessions!

What days are classes held?

We hold public classes most evenings and weekend afternoons, but this can be affected by private bookings. Visit our Public Events calendar to see exact dates. Private events can be booked any time!

How do I sign up for a class?

Reservations must be made online in advance of classes. Click on “Public Events” at the top of the page to see our calendar and browse through the upcoming painting sessions. When you see one you like you can either click “Book Now” directly from the calendar page, or check out “Class Details” first and register from there. Follow the on-screen directions to complete your order.

I don't have any artistic talent, will I be able to do the painting?

Absolutely! All of our classes are beginner-friendly, and our artists will walk you through the painting step by step. Acrylic paint dries quickly and can be layered almost endlessly, so it’s easy to try again if you don’t like something. Almost everyone comes away from our classes pleasantly surprised by what they accomplished!

Do I have to follow the instructions?

No! Our artists are here to show you how to recreate the class painting if you so choose, but ultimately your painting is for YOU and we encourage you to do whatever you want. Change the colours, add things in, go full abstract.. we want you to be happy with your art. You will not be graded!

Does the paint stain?

Yes! It will wash off of your skin, but it won’t come out of fabric once dry (after all, it’s designed to stick to canvas). If you catch it right away we can try to get it out with some oil soap, but we can’t make any promises.

When do I need to arrive for the class?

Our bar will be open 30 minutes before class time - we recommend coming early to settle in and get a drink. If you’re running a little late it’s okay, but keep in mind that the more you miss the harder it will be to catch up. The artists will help you where they can, but we can’t guarantee that they’ll have time to explain everything again (or how soon they’ll be able to get back to the bar!)

Where do I find the studio?

We are located at 2361 Brimley Road in Scarborough, between Finch Ave. and Sheppard Ave. We’re in Chartwell Shipping Centre – look for Tim Harton!

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on the class. $45 is standard for most classes, but Little Brushes are $35 and Open Studio is $25. Private bookings are $45 per person, but are subject to a minimum charge and other costs for add-ons. Submit an event inquiry through our Private Events tab for details!

What should I bring to the class?

We provide everything you need to paint! If you’d like to have some drinks you’ll need a method of payment for our bar, as well as your ID if you’re on the younger side. We accept cash and card (including AMEX and Apple Wallet), and all payments must be in Canadian dollars. Some other fun things you might like to have with you include snacks, a camera, and a friend!

Can I bring wine?

We do NOT Allow "BYOB" or any outside beverages - alcoholic or otherwise. You can buy drinks from our bar throughout your class.

What about food?

You’re welcome to bring food with you, or even have delivery brought right to the studio! We do have some light snacks available, but if you’d like to eat something different we won’t stand in your way.

What should I wear?

We’re partnered with our neighbours at Domino's to offer fresh pizza in the studio - you can order through our bar, and the pizza will be delivered directly to you in 20-30 minutes. We have some light snacks available as well. If you’d like something different you’re welcome to bring food with you!

Is seating assigned?

Yes, we set up a seating plan in advance to make sure all groups have space to sit together. If you book several spots in one order we’ll place you together automatically. If you’d like to sit with friends who made their own reservations, just note their names under “Seating Requests” when you check out! You can also note other accommodations and preferences here, such as mobility concerns, left-handedness, and whether you’d like to be near the front or back. If plans change feel free to email us to update seating requests before your class.

Is there an age limit?

Most of our classes are adult-focused and not recommended for children under 13. If you’d like to bring a younger child we offer Little Brushes classes aimed at kids, and private parties are great for groups of all ages! Minors must be accompanied by adults. The drinking age in Ontario is 19 – teens 18 and under can participate in classes but cannot consume alcohol.

What is the cancellation policy?

We do not offer refunds. If you’d like to reschedule your reservation we can issue a credit that can be used to book a different class. Rescheduling requests made 72h or more in advance of the class start are issued free of charge, and will receive credit that can be used within 60 days. Short-notice requests made within 72h of class time are subject to a fee of $10 + tax per person, and the credit must be used within 60 days. 2h before class start all reservations are locked in and can no longer be changed.

When will the next calendar be up?

The calendar is monthly and gets posted mid-month, typically around the 16th. If you’d like to be notified when it’s released be sure to join our mailing list at the bottom of this page!
