Staff Spotlight: Nanda Thompson
Fehr-NAAN-Dha (n.) a beautiful, bold Brazilian artist; feminine equivalent of Ferdinand; derived from frith meaning peace, protection, and safety, and nanth meaning bravery.
As I write this while listening to Brazilian jazz, I'm reminded of the time Nanda Thompson showed me how to salsa whilst holding a half gallon of paint in each hand. True story! A story that epitomizes the spunk, light, and pure FUN that Nanda brings to any situation. Although we've only had the pleasure of having Nanda on our team for two years, she's been a part of Oklahoma for over a vicennial now. She shares her culture with us not only through her art, but also by teaching Portuguese at Tulsa Community College. When she's not pushing paint or trilling those R's, her heart is devoted to MITA's Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing basic needs for the children of Peru. Her big heart is one of many things we love about her!
As you can see in her art, Nanda's stunning composition of geometrical shapes and creation of realistic architecture merge to give the mind an overload of textured, 3D tessellating beauty. Her bold color choices and knowledge of shading and dimension makes it no wonder why her art is displayed proudly all over Tulsa. Her work has been featured (and purchased by) the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, in various offices in Tulsa, and on postcards sold locally featuring Tulsa's historic architecture. We are honored to have this sweet soul on our team, and hope you have the pleasure of painting with her soon!
