Staff Spotlight: Rose Moguin!
Tell us about yourself:
My name is Rose Moguin. I am born and raised in and around Tulsa. A Midtown girl at heart. I lived in Los Angeles for 11 years and while there worked for Harley-Davidson as a Motorclothes buyer and merchandise designer. If you have a Hollywood Harley-Davidson t-shirt, odds are fairly good that I had a hand in its design! I spent my weekends riding motorcycles up the mountains and down PCH. I have owned 8 motorcycles in my life! I now spend my free time with my 5 year old, Indigo. We hike Turkey mountain, go bike and scooter riding, and spend hours in the car hunting down remote swimming holes and exploring our state. Suggestions welcome!
How long have you worked at Pinot’s Palette?
2 Years I have worked here! The first time I attended a class, I knew this was the job for me!
Favorite artist:
It is difficult to pick a favorite artist, but I do love Salvador Dali. He may be mostly known for melting clocks, but he had a weird sense of humor about his food. Also, David Hockney, he is very crafty and experimental with his mediums and I really enjoy his Los Angeles work, particularly all those swimming pools!
Favorite Pinot’s Palette memory:
For Christmas the staff got together and created a bit of a gross gift of love for our HR manager. The anticipation was gut wrenching, but the reaction was amazing. A hodge-podge of tears and laughter. This group, the staff at Pinot’s, is a pretty tight knit family full of kind, well meaning people, and everything we do together is fodder for great memories.
Other hobbies besides painting:
As far as other hobbies go, I have to admit that I can easily be Tom Sawyered into working on any type of crafty thing. I consider myself to be a multi-media upcycler, so any old technique or medium can be applied to this craft. I am always looking for something to Mod Podge! This week’s craft is probably going to be turning Indigo’s new (but used) power wheel into an art car!
Bicycling is my long-standing favorite hobby. Prior to parenthood, I would go on long rides daily. My son is learning now, so we should be ready for Tulsa Tough next summer! 😆
Knitting, beading, swimming, camping, and apparently sticker collecting (recently realized after moving, lol.)
Favorite Pinot’s painting to teach:
My favorite pinot’s painting to teach is Roots of the Galaxy. The yonic symbolism that reveals itself just slightly different on each canvas is amazing, just like in real life! And I love painting nude (deciduous)trees.
What does being an artist mean to you?
Being an artist is a lifelong pursuit. Everyday, I work in the studio and think “Yeah, I made it. I’m an artist!” But being around such amazing talent makes you work harder at the skills, but it doesn’t guarantee inspiration. You have to find it. So I guess being an artist means you are constantly on the hunt for that inspiration! So, to me, Artist=Explorer?
