Best Murals in the 918
Tulsa is home to a multitude of thriving, talented artists from all around, which can only mean one thing: our town is their canvas. A brick wall to us is a blank slate for them, begging to be slathered in vibrant hues and powerful pigment. There's no shortage of murals and painted panoramas in our beloved city, and today we mention a few that have caught our eye.
Perhaps one of the most decorated districts in Tulsa, the Blue Dome District displays an electrifying collection of murals and art. It's hard to find a building that hasn't been painted on at some point; many murals found in the Blue Dome district have been there for years and just as many are shining with a fresh coat of paint. Home to the famous Blue Dome Arts Festival, it's no wonder why beautifully crafted imagery is found around every corner of this decorated district.
One locally famous mural, found on the Hunt Club of Tulsa's exterior, is a collaboration sponsored by Arts Alliance of Tulsa and the Tulsa Artist Fellowship. With the intent to depict the city's arts in the form of a mural, local artists Yatika Starr Fields and Codak Smith did exactly that. Whether it's the abstract background that moves you or the human form in such vibrancy, this is one you won't want to miss.
While there are upwards of 100 different murals we would love to dive into, it'd be sacrilege not to mention the wings wall of Broken Arrow. Janet Skates Art gifted the city with a beautiful set of wings sure to set your heart soaring, and this interactive piece is an Instagram sensation. Janet was quoted in saying "I believe that every person possesses a creative spirit and that we express it in many different ways: cooking, architecture, teaching, gardening, engineering, sewing...every aspect of our lives can benefit from our innate creative energy when it is nurtured and applied. We must unlearn much of what we are taught and allow ourselves permission to explore and expand our inner artist while quieting our inner critic." Wise words, Janet!
We hope you check back next week when we hit on a topic near and dear to our hearts... red, red wine! Cheers, friends!
