—RIESLING —
Chateau Ste Michelle Reisling, Columbia Valley, Wash., ($10)
Sweet, candied lime peel, apricot and apple aromas are layered on the nose. Noticeably sweet on entry, this has fine acid balance lending a transparent feel in the mouth and taking the edge right off the sweetness. The result is a medium-bodied, lime-based mid-palate with a touch of herb and apple peel complexity that extends over the moderately long finish. Nicely balanced and fresh if a touch simple, this checks all the boxes.
— ROSÉ —
**Underwood Rosé ($14)
Easy to drink thanks to light strawberry and peach notes, this Oregon winner is great for the rosé newbie who hasn't yet come over to the pink side.
— PINOT GRIGIO —
Woodbridge Pinot Grigio, by Robert Mondavi ($8)
Crisp and juicy with a touch of spice, this white is a mouthwatering complement to fried chicken, quesadillas, and Greek salad.
— SAUVIGNON BLANC —
2014 Mapuche Sauvignon Blanc ($12)
I find that a lot of people think almost exclusively about red wines when they think about South American regions. I get it, Malbec and Carmenère are delicious, but if you’ve never tried Chilean Sauvignon Blanc you really need to give it a go. It’s generally more restrained than the stuff from New Zealand and shows really pretty floral notes to boot!
— CHARDONNAY —
2012 Simi Chardonnay ($12)
The remarkable color of this wine cannot be ignored. It is brilliantly clear straw with glimmers of gold throughout. The nose is similarly expressive, with tropical notes of guava, pineapple, bright nectarine, peach, green apple, and citrus delicately spiced with toasty oak. Lifted aromatics of orange blossoms and a hint of smoke add a savory character.
— RED BLEND —
2013 Apothic Winemakers Red Blend ($10)
Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine blend is like California in a bottle. Juicy, chocolatey, and super drinkable, this is a blend that doesn’t want to be fussed over, it just wants to be enjoyed.
— PINOT NOIR —
2014 The Pinot Project California Pinot Noir ($12)
A $12 Pinot that actually tastes like Pinot is like a mythical creature—rumored but rarely seen. And yet here one is, a project (hence the name) of NY-based importers Skurnik Wines. It has the cherry-cola spice character of classic Russian River Valley wines at a third (or less) the price.
— MALBEC —
2016 Mascota Vineyards La Mascota Malbec ($15)
This deliciously rich wine has aromas of dried fruit and rust, with hints of figs. Medium body, firm and silky... A pretty wine. Enjoy this juicy Malbec with grilled meats and vegetables!
— PETITE SIRAH —
2017 Trader Joe’s Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah, Lot 116 ($10)
The Trader Joe’s Reserve Napa Valley Petite Sirah Lot 116 is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and sells for $9.99. While Trader Joe’s has had Petite Sirah in their Reserve line in the past, this one from Napa Valley appears to be new this year.
White, light, bold, red, sparkling, peppery, and more… We love ALL wine (as you’ve probably guessed, based on our name, alone!). While some might feel that “wine is wine", to most, there is a noticeable difference between cheap boxed wine and a higher dollar bottle of the good stuff. From the region the wine comes from, to the variety of grape, how it’s made, and the year, there are many factors that determine the quality of wine; But we say if you like it, then go with it! There’s no wrong wine and certainly no wrong way to drink it! From plastic cups to the right shaped glasses, there are tons of ways to drink vino, and the holiday season tends to be a time of year when it’s consumed the most!
We hope to see you all soon at the studio for a painting class and bring in one of these bottles of wine to try when you come! With our BYOB policy, you can select the drink of your choice to enjoy as a little ‘Liquid Creativity’ while you paint, listen to music, and have a whole lot of fun at Pinot’s Palette, Brick!
